Cory Lavine is a pianist and composer based in Nashville, Tennessee.
Born and raised in a small town in Upstate New York, Cory has been in Nashville for nearly two decades, seizing the spirit of one of America’s foremost music towns.
His relationship with music began at a very early age: he started studying piano at the age of 9 and learned to play by ear before he could even read music. By the time he was a teenager, Cory started experimenting with the broad range of sounds made possible by synthesizers, drum machines, and digital instruments. Combined with his accomplished piano skills, these new, exciting tones allowed him to create a very distinctive sound and develop a very special approach to composing and songwriting.
He delved into the professional music world in the 90s, as he performed extensively with Young American Showcase, as a keyboardist in a 5-piece rock band that performed for schools, with a repertoire of popular rock songs. His work with the band didn’t only stand out for its sheer musical value, but also for the groups’ goal of inspiring kids to follow a lifestyle free of drugs and alcohol.
A devoted Christian, Cory has always been fond of using his God-given talent to spread a message of hope and positivity. He even served as a youth minister for a period. However, his calling for music was still in the air of time.
With a new found faith and enthusiasm, however, Cory rediscovered his musical path and it didn’t take long before he would begin to perform again and follow music as a professional path. Cory released his debut album, “Out of the Blue,” as a way to immortalize the encounters and pivotal moments that led him to find his way back to music.
With a sound that bridges the gaps between classical and contemporary, Cory managed to impress the audience and critics alike. The late journalist, artist, and producer Michael Diamond, stated this about Cory’s debut release; “There is a good deal of heart and soul in his playing that reflects aspects of the experiences that have shaped him. It is inspiring to see how his life and music have come to this point.
In 2016, he was awarded Best New Artist by Enlightened Piano Radio, which features over 150 solo pianists from around the world.
In October of 2017, Cory was one of five finalists amongst some of Nashville’s greatest pianists and composers for the Composer of the Year Award at Miller Piano Specialists.
With the excitement and success that has transpired since his debut album in 2015, do stay tuned for more music to be released by Cory in 2018.
