As a composer, Matthew has written works for a variety of ensembles and has had compositions performed at Society of Composers and College Music Society conferences, Colorado Composers Concerts, the National Flute Association Conference, the University of Alabama Huntsville New Music Festival, and the Tutti New Music Festival. His composition Drift for string orchestra received the Kent State University Creative Arts Award in 2002. Matthew has also presented at various music conferences, including the International Conference on Twentieth-Century Music in Brighton, UK.
Matthew has released the contemporary instrumental albums This Little Light (2016) and Open Spaces (2008), available on CD Baby and Itunes, with songs streamed in over 20 countries and heard on over 30 radio programs in the U.S., U.K., Spain, France, Australia, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, and the Netherlands. The album This Little Light was included in the Zone Music Reporter top album charts for three months, placed at #24 on the One World Music top 100 album chart, and was selected as the #2 contemporary instrumental release from June through September 2016 on Gaia Prime Radio. Matthew is an Enlightened Piano artist, an international co-op of piano artists, and his music has been used in films, video games, and theater productions, including the documentary A Shared Space: Learning from the Mustard Seed School. His music has been used in several hundred youtube videos, including animation based on the video game Five Nights at Freddy’s, and has received over sixty million views.
